Based on the discussions held amongst the various stakeholders, it has been decided to hold a Joint Entrance
Examination from 2013 for admission to the undergruduate progr~mTT1CSin engineering in two part3, JEE (Main)
and JEE (Advanced). /
The revised scheme of examination is as follow;
~ Name of the examination snall be Joint Entrance Examination(JEE)
~ JBE shall be held in two parts ~ JEE (Main) and JEE (Adv<.\nced).
);> Now, AIEEE will be known as JEE(Main) and llT-JEE as JEE:(Advunced)
);> All candidates shall take JEE (Main). JEE (Main) ~ha11be gatewuy for JEE (Advanced)
;;. Only the lop 150,000 candidates (indud.ing all categories 1\3 per rcsen-ation poUq) based on
performance in JEE (Main), will qualify to appear in'the JEE (Advanced) ·examination. Admission to ll'rs
.•1•...11be based only on category wise All India Rank it}. JEE (Advanced), subject to condition that such
candidates are in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in Class XII/equivalent examination
conducted by their Boa.rds in applicable categories.
);> For admission to National Institutes of Technology (NI'fs), Centrallyf.~unded Techni<;al Institutions (eFT!s)
like !lITs etc. and participating Institutions; the ment/nmk liSt shall be prepared based on 40 per cent
weightage to school board m;J.rks in Class XIi or equivalent examinations and 60 per cent weightage to
JEE(Main).
'l'he weightage to school Board/ equivalent cxamination matk~ shall be considered only after
normali7-ation.
> In caSe any State opts to admit students in the engineering colleges <:l.ffiliatcdto State Universities and the
State require separate merit list to be provided based on some other wdghtages for Class XU/ equivalent
examination & JEE (Mninl, then the merit list shall be prepnred with such relative weightages as may be
indicClted by Stt'ites. As on date Gujarat St<lte has indicated its willingness to participate in JEE (Main)
);- Those students who bave appeared in the Class XlI Board examinations/equivalent in 2012 and wish to
improve upon their performances for the purpose of JEE(Main)/JEE(Advanced) will be required to appear
in all subjects as per Scheme of Studies again from their respective Boards in 2013.
).0 The proposed changes shall be effective from the year 2013.
